SD Card Speed Labels: Why Manufacturer Names Can Mislead
A manufacturer's speed label, even within the same brand, may not tell you anything about the natural speed differences between card form factors such as SD and microSD.
Example: the same label on different formats
SanDisk may have developed a microSD card that is faster than its fastest full-size SD cards, and labelled both "Extreme".
What this means
- It does not mean the microSD format is inherently better.
- It only means that, at the moment, you can buy a faster microSD card from SanDisk than an SD card with the same label.
Don't rely on a marketing name alone when comparing cards of different formats.
