Move Apps to an SD Card on Android 8.0 Oreo

On Android 8.0 Oreo you move a supported app to the SD card from its Storage settings. The steps are the same as on Android 9.0; we cover each version separately for clarity.

How to move an app to the SD card

  1. Open Settings and go to Apps (Apps & notifications) > App info.
  2. Find the app you want to move and tap it.
  3. Tap Storage.
  4. If the app supports moving, a Change (or Switch) button appears. Tap it.
  5. Select the SD card in the window that opens.
  6. Tap Move in the confirmation window.

The app must support being moved to external storage. Pre-installed apps cannot be moved. Menu names can differ slightly by phone brand.
